Profit and Loss. Simplified.
If you haven't caught on yet, our goal is to simplify all things finance in this course. We kick it off by breaking down the most widely used financial statement, the Profit and Loss, or, as us financial nerds like to call it... the P&L. We'll run through basic terminology related to the P&L, how to effectively examine and influence P&L numbers, and key ratios you should know and understand when dealing with the P&L statement.
Balance Sheets. Simplified.
Have you heard the Untold Story before?? Probably not, because it hasn't been told... Okay, that was just me trying to be funny, so I'm going to assume you're laughing right now. Balance sheets are often referred to as the Untold Story. In this module I'll give you the background on that as well as classification and effective examination of balance sheets, what's hiding in your balance sheet, and associated key ratios.
Cash Flow. Simplified.
Of the 3 main financial statements, the cash flow statement is by far the most underutilized. That's a huge bummer because there are so many operational goods in it; it just takes proper presentation and understanding to make it worth its while. To simplify this area of finance, we will go through what a cash flow statement and cycle look like as well as how to influence and improve the statement and cycle.
Here we look away from the past and focus on how to actually influence the numbers! There are SO many ways you can go when looking at organizational resources and how to optimize performance, but for the purpose of relevancy, we focus mainly on three main resources. I will break down metrics for human capital, along with how to manage inventory and utilize equipment.
Once you get this far in the course, it's time to forget about numbers in the past and look toward the future. I want to teach you how to get where you want to go in this module! I know when the term "budgeting" can be a huge turn-off for you, hence why I instead went with forecasting (that's the only time I'll try to sneak one past you, promise me). With forecasting comes pricing, cost of goods sold (COGS), and a couple different methods of budgeting to rewire your brain in the way you think about budgets.
Value Creation. Simplified.
As the grand finale of the course, you'll be rewarded with all the goodies needed to set yourself apart from competition by creating value for your organization. This is essential when looking to diversify your organization in the market. It seems like a no-brainer but you'd be surprised how many people bypass this step.. and by then it's too late for them! to finish off the course we will analyze profit centers vs cost centers, how to paint with numbers, and true return on investment.
